PHI PHI ISLAND - FULL DAY TOUR

Our boat was the "Paradise Cruise"

Excursion & resume made by Jesper Vagt-Andersen

We were picked up from our hotel at 07:30 AM by an air-conditioned minibus and ready to depart with the boat from the pier at 08:30AM. It was a large boat with two decks (an upper and lower deck). The lower deck is fully air-conditioned with a bar which serves free soft drinks, water, tea and coffee during the whole trip. Ice cream and beers can be bought at reasonable prices. The upper deck has a smaller air-conditioned room and a sun deck.

The company offers both transfers and package tours; I was going on the full day package tour around Phi Phi Island. Many of the passengers chose to sit on the lower air-conditioned deck where they normally shows movies during the boat trip. I was going on the package tour to experience Phi Phi Island, I chose to sit on the sun deck and enjoy the spectacular view on the one and a half hour transfer to Phi Phi Island. The scenery of Southern Thailand around Krabi, Phi Phi and Phang Nga are really amazing. This is a view you can’t experience anywhere else!

We arrived at Phi Phi Don Pier at 10:10 AM. We continued with the boat to the smaller island named Phi Phi Le. Our first stop was Maya Bay where they recorded  the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Di Caprio. The boat was going to be still for one hour in this lagoon, time for snorkeling…

One could argue that there is no reason to put on a mask and go into the water to see the underwater life. You can simply stand on the sun deck and look into the water. The water around the Phi Phi Islands area are so clear that you can easily see 5 meters below. It’s like watching a large natural aquarium with no glass. I believe in the full experience so I put on the mask and snorkel and jumped in the clear waters which I had been looking for the last hour in the hot sun. Mask, snorkel and fins are provided for free on the boat. If you do not feel that you are a strong swimmer or simply too lazy to swim for one hour, you can borrow a life vest on board (also sizes for children).

After one hour of snorkeling, the boat goes for sightseeing around Phi Phi Le. Since Phi Phi Le is not very big, the sightseeing around the island is done in a half hour.

We were back at Phi Phi Don at 12:15 where lunch was prepared at the Phi Phi Princess Resort. A Resort located 2 minutes from the pier and right on the beach. The lunch was the classic Thai Buffet with rice, sweet and sour chicken, fried vegetables and Thai noodles. After lunch, we had free time until 14:45 where the boat was leaving for Phuket. In Phi Phi Town, you can choose to relax on the beach, the one outside Phi Phi Princess is actually one of the nicest on the Island. If you, for some strange reason, are still hungry after the large buffet, you can visit one of the many restaurants and cafes which serves everything from Thai seafood to Pizzas. You can also walk around the small narrow streets and do some souvenir shopping.

Back on the boat, I dared myself to go down to the lower deck in the air-conditioned room and get myself a soda. There was not so many people on the trip so I found myself a place and put up my feet, I slowly dozed of while watching Phi Phi disappearing in the background and listening to the “The Beach” playing on TV in the background. It’s amazing how tired you can get of just relaxing and enjoy yourself; it must be all that fresh sea air. At the pier, a minivan was waiting for me and I was back at my hotel at 17:00 after a trip which had spoiled my eyes, maybe that’s what made them so tired, after all I went right to sleep that night.
